CrossFit Kids and Teens

Our CrossFit Kids and Teens programs are designed to empower kids and teens with healthy fitness habits whilst having fun, burning energy, and learning physical skills and functional movements. The skills and principles taught increase proprioceptive abilities, spatial and postural awareness, and metabolic conditioning, and are ideal for kids and teens looking to improve their general physical well being, as well as those looking to gain an edge in their chosen sport.

By teaching the skills and principles of movement in a team environment, we help kids and teenagers become physically and mentally robust, and also establish the life skills needed for the rigours of childhood and teen life.

CrossFit Kids – designed for kids between 8-12 year olds, the CrossFit Kids program incorporates games, gymnastics and metabolic conditioning exercises. Register online.

CrossFit Teens – Designed for teenagers between 12-17 years of age, or for kids who have solid functional movement foundations and a healthy attitude for learning, CrossFit Teens incorporates gymnastics, weightlifting (scaled accordingly) and metabolic conditioning, and focuses on 3 fundamental aspects of functional movement – biomechanics, consistency in execution, and intensity. Register online.

CrossFit school holiday programs – a great way to try CrossFit or to get an intensive fitness boost, our school holiday programs are constantly varied – just like our workouts – to keep kids and teens on their toes. 

Our 2020 Kids & Teens schedule

Our CrossFit Kids & Teens program is delivered on a 10-week school term basis, with each CrossFit Kids and Teen session running for 45 minutes. Our CrossFit Teens Plus sessions run for 55 minutes. 

Kids can choose to come once or twice a week, and Teens have the option of choosing 1 x week , 2 x week, 3 x week, or Unlimited term program memberships. The classes are held on the following days and times:

  • CrossFit Kids – Mondays: 3:30pm-4:15pm, and Wednesdays: 3:30pm-4:15pm. Class sizes are capped at 20 per class.
  • CrossFit Teens – Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays: 4:20pm-5:05pm and 5:10pm-5:55pm. Class sizes are capped 20 per class, and Teens must reserve their spot via our booking system each week.
  • CrossFit Teens Plus – Tuesdays: 4:20pm- 5:15pm (new for 2020), and Thursdays: 5pm-5:55pm. Please note this class is a longer class and will suit Teens looking for a suped up workout. It’s also an ideal transition for those looking to move into the adult classes in the near future. Classes are capped at 15 per class, and Teens must reserve their spot via our booking system each week.
  • Yoga – Teens on the Unlimited Teens Membership are also eligible to attend our Thursday 7pm Yoga class.

CrossFit 2020 Term dates are as follows:

  • Term 1 – Monday 3rd February to Thursday 9th April
  • Term 2 – Monday 27th April to Friday 3rd July
  • Term 3 – Monday 20th July to Friday 25th September
  • Term 4 – Monday 12th October to Friday 18th December

Kids & Teens FAQs

Can my child do a trial class?

Absolutely. We want all our CrossFit Kids and Teens to be comfortable at Hive Active so they can get fit, stay fit and have fun. Your child is welcome to do a free trial class before signing up for the term. They are also welcome to bring a friend, but all participants must have an Intake Form completed by their parent or guardian prior to attending their first class.

Can I use the Active Kids Rebate when enrolling in a CrossFit Kids and Teens program?

Yes, for our 10-week term programs but not the school holiday programs. Hive Active’s Kids & Teens CrossFit Term program is registered with the NSW Government. To utilise your Active Kids voucher, you need to contact Hive Active prior to registering your child in our CrossFit program. Here’s how.

What happens if my child misses a class?

Kids get sick or occasionally have competing priorities just like us, so we offer our kids and teens members the opportunity to do a catch up class on the same or following week of their absence. Please let our team know if you wish for this to happen so we can ensure there is space in the alternate class.

What should my child wear and bring?

All kids and teens should wear comfortable sportswear and bring a towel and drink bottle to each session.

How Do I enrol and register through Wodify? 

Enrolment is 100% online for CrossFit Teens as you will need to have individual WODIFY accounts (Hive Active’s  online member platform) to be able to book classes, check-in and track your performance. Here’s what you need to do:

    1. GO to http://hiveactive.com.au/membership and scroll down to the Kids and Teens membership options.
    1. Click on the program you want to participate in i.e. once, twice, or three times a week.
    1. Enter/update your details in WODIFY.
    1. Read the waiver and sign.
  1. You’re all set to book your classes.

How do I reserve/cancel a spot in a teens class?

Booking your weekly spot(s) in class in compulsory for teens as class numbers will be capped to max 20 Teens for our standard classes and 15 Teens for our Teens Plus classes. For 2020, Teens need to make all their class reservation at the start of term for the full term. This allows us to adequately monitor class sizes and ensure enrolments aren’t oversubscribed. Teens can reserve a spot for each class in ways:

  1. WODIFY WEB APP

    1. Download the WODIFY app
    2. Login to your Wodify account
    3. Click the ‘Calendar’ tab
    4. View the Calendar
    5. The white calendar icon signals a class that is open for booking.
    6. Hive Active opens the bookings for the full term prior to each term starting. (In the example below, only classes that begin in the next 24 hours are open for reservation)
    7. Classes not open for registration are identified with a gray calendar icon

    8. To make a reservation, click the white calendar icon
    9. Immediately after you click the white calendar icon:
      • The icon changes to a ticket, indicating you have successfully made the reservation
      • A cancel icon appears; click this if you wish to cancel
      • The reservation count and meter increase by 1Calendar.png
    10. You are free to make or cancel reservations to as many classes as your membership allows but you need to do so a minimum of 24 hours prior to your booking.
  2. FROM THE HIVE ACTIVE WEBSITE

    1. This process is very similar to reserving from the Wodify Web App
    2. Open Hive Active’s Schedule page on our website
    3. Scroll to where your see the class schedule
    4. From within the schedule pane, click ‘Login’Schedule_-_Crossfit_DT1.png
    5. Log in with your Wodify username and password
    6. Follow same steps as listed in the above Wodify Web App tutorial to reserve or cancel a reservation
  3. MOBILE DEVICE

    1. Login to Wodify from a mobile device
    2. Click the Class Schedule tab
    3. Scroll through the list of classes and find a class to make a reservation
    4. Click on the ‘Reserve’ button to make a reservation for the class that you would like to attend.
    5. Click the ‘Cancel’ button if you would like to cancel your reservation

What happens if a Teen doesn’t reserve their place in class?

If a Teen hasn’t reserved a place in class and arrives to find the class fully booked, they will have to wait for the following Teens class for the day. If the class they are wishing to participate in is the last Teens class for the day, it will be at the coaches discretion as to whether it is safe for the Teen to participate. If a Teen arrives for class without a reservation and there is space available, they will be able to participate.

What happens if a Teen reserves a place in class but doesn’t turn up?

It’s really bad form to reserve a place in class and not show up. We understand ALL Teens lives are really busy, so keep in mind that if one Teen needs to alternate their schedule and train on an alternate day, it’s highly likely that another Teen needs to do the same and freeing up your reserved spot means someone else can do the same – it’s a win-win for everyone. Teens that are no-shows for class will be penalised 40 burpees on their next attendance and also will be required to pay $10. We’re hoping this is incentive enough to do the right thing 😉

How do Teens check-in to class?

Teens can check-in to class in two ways:

  1. USING THE APP
    1. Go to Class Schedule.
    2. Select the Teens CrossFit program.
    3. Scroll to the time you are attending, and click on “sign In”.
    4. You’re good to go.
  2. USING THE DIGITAL BOARDS AT HIVE ACTIVE
    1. Before class starts go to the Digital screen, find the correct class in the drop-down list at the top of the page.
    2. Find your name in the Athlete list on the left hand side and then click on “Sign-In”
